The Palestinian Youth Association for Leadership and Rights Activation- PYALARA, in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO", announced the results of the Media and Information Literacy Competition for Radio 2022, which included Mawal radio, 4 FM radio from the West Bank, and Zaman radio from Gaza.
4 FM radio station from Hebron won first place in the competition, followed by Mawal from Bethlehem, then Zaman in third place from the Gaza Strip.
The competition consisted of three pillars: the first dealt with media coverage on media and information literacy within one of the programs, the second was about media productions that contribute to the promotion of media and information literacy among different societal groups. As for the third one, it focused on the future vision set by the radio stations, to ensure the continuation of the efforts of this culture, which refers to the ways of dealing with media and information to which an individual is exposed through traditional means and social media platforms.
The jury consisted of: Hania Al-Bitar (Director-General of PYALARA), Hala Tannous (Liaison Coordinator of the UNESCO Ramallah Office), Sidqi Musa (Media lecturer at the Arab American University), Maysoon Odeh (Director of Women's Radio FM), and Dr. Ahmed Al Maghari (Media lecturer at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza).
Al-Bitar stressed the importance of media and information literacy, especially in light of the huge amount of information that individuals are exposed to as a natural result of digital development, and the importance of continuing communication between all participating institutions in an attempt to keep pace with the global development in the field of communication and awareness regarding it.
Tannous pointed out the importance of this type of competitions, which would enhance the experiences of workers in the media field to implement MIL standards on the widest scale.
In turn, Maghari praised the efforts of PYALARA and UNESCO, considering that the evaluation leads to improving and developing the performance.
